For the Love of Music

by Sydney

1. Jimmy Fallon and Neil Young

Sometimes Irene and I don’t know what each of us are doing. A good example is this Jimmy Fallon video. Irene tweeted it out a few weeks ago and I’m sure most of you have already seen it. So for the 3 of you who haven’t this is for you. For about five years Jimmy Fallon has been singing songs by Neil Young and doing a fine job. It’s amazing how much Jimmy sounds like Neil Young and in this video Neil and Jimmy dressed alike to perform “Old Man”. Rock on.

2. Whitehorse – I’m on Fire

Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet are Canada’s power couple. They met in 2004 when they were both working with Sara McLachlan and since that time have played music together, recorded together and toured together. They got married in 2006 but it wasn’t until 2011 that they formed their band Whitehorse. This video is a cover of Bruce Springteen’s “I’m on Fire”. Melissa and Luke will be playing in Ottawa at the National Art Centre May 14, 2015.

3. Death Cab for Cutie – Black Sun

I have to confess I don’t know much about the band Death Cab for Cutie except that they’re from Seattle and the band name is from a rockabilly song about a girl named Cutie who gets in a taxi accident after cheating on her boyfriend. They have been together since the early 2000’s. Black Sun was released this past January and is burning up the charts.

4. Bonus Cool Thing

This week we have a bonus cool thing. Coming this April/May the NAC will present Ontario Scene which is 12 days of music performed by 600 Ontario artists. The Ontario Pass is 5/$99. 5 shows for $99. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to hear great music.
