1. The Royal Swans
One of the best reasons to go for a walk along the Rideau River from spring to fall, is to see the Royal Swans. It’s not too late this year to catch a glimpse. These photos were taken by Billings Bridge. It seems we only have one Australian Black swan now, and he or she spends his or her time with two of the Mute (white) swans.
If you’re concerned about keeping the world clean (so swans, dogs, cats, your kids) get to enjoy things like clean air and water, join TerraCycle – a ‘recycling company that collects difficult-to-recycle packaging and products and repurposes the material into affordable, innovative products.’
Once you register with them, you can send your ‘difficult-to-recycle’ stuff to them by UPS, free of charge. Things like lipstick and mascara tubes, Tassimo coffee disks, candy wrappers (from all that Halloween candy), and tons of other packaging. It’s a great service!
Another great way to cut down on things going to the landfill, tare refers the weight of an empty container. Most health food stores encourage shoppers to bring in their own containers, fill them up with the products they’re buying (spices, peanut butter, honey), and then you only pay for the product, not the packaging.
